Did you ever wonder why this group is called the "Pommerscher Verein Freistadt"? Our backstory appeared in an article on the Wisconsin Public Radio website recently, in a feature "Home Away from the Homeland: Why So Many German Immigrants Chose Wisconsin". People ask questions about the state that made them curious, and their questions are answered in a segment called "Whyconsin". The feature was read on the air. You can read the feature here. https://www.wpr.org/why-so-many-german-immigrants-chose-wisconsin-ancestry

Pomeranian Heritage Tour 2024 Update

The group will leave Chicago O’Hare via Aer Lingus on Tuesday, May 28, 2024. After changing planes in Dublin, we will arrive in Hamburg on Wednesday. The group will return to O’Hare the evening of June 9.  It is possible to meet the group in Hamburg or stay behind when we go home.

There will be a coach bus leaving somewhere in the Milwaukee area to travel to and from O’Hare for those who wish to use this service and park their cars.

If you join this tour, there are opportunities to take individual “side trips” to ancestral homes in the Pomeranian region.

The tour brochure is now posted in the red bar on the left. The brochure details how to make actual reservations, submit deposits, etc.  If you have other questions, email information@pommerscher.org.

The membership year for the PVF is January 1 - December 31.
If you are NOT a member, but wish to join in order to access "hidden" parts of this website, including the online database of 181,000+ names, please click on "Join" button to the left.
