The Patzlaffs settled on farms a few miles south of the Romberg family in Black Wolf Township in Winnebago County. The Patzlaff and Romberg families connected in 1873 when Caroline Patzlaff, one of the children of Wilhemine and Ludwig, married Heinrich Ahswede, a Romberg counsin. In 1878 William Kester, the son of one of the original Romberg immigrants, married Alvine Patzlaff, another daughter of Wilhemine and Ludwig.
