The society uses Polish civil registers (Personenstandsregister) as well as indexes of archives in Germany, Poland, and the Czech Republic, among other sources, to answer information requests.

    The archive contains records for Pommern (Pomerania) from the 12th century to 1945, and the area of Rostock from 1952 to 1990. Records are organized as follows: duchy of Pommern-Wolgast (12th century-1640), Swedish Pomerania (1648-1815), Brandenburgian Pomerania (1654-1806, province of Pomerania (1815-1945). No catalog of holdings is available, only publications of church records. The archive contains emigration lists, releases from citizenship, as well as passenger lists (the port of Stettin) from the 19th century. The archive has church records for West and East Pomerania. The primary 19th century publication is the Verzeichnis der pommerschen Kirchenbücher in Vorpommerschen Landesarchiv Greifswald, a catalog of the Pomeranian church records in the archive (Temmin edition, 1996). There are around 70 holdings available for the West and east Pomeranian city administrations. Censuses of Swedish Pomerania and Prussian Pomerania are kept for the 18th and 19th centuries. Military muster rolls for Swedish Pomerania and Prussian Pomerania are kept for the 18th and 19th centuries. There are holdings available from areas which border on eastern Pomerania (now in Poland), as well as holdings from provincial and city administrations and court records.

    This is an archive for church-run institutions and the state church offices and establishments. Although the archive is almost completely unindexed, it is organized into: Records: provincial and state religious assemblies, bishop's chancellery, church administration, consistory from 1945 on; Collections: photo collections with about 600 photographs from the 19th and 20th centuries; Church Records: from Hinterpommern, as well as duplicates from Vorpommern and some military parish records.     The archive serves the Leipzig region. There are some 23,000 records of emigration to all continents, especially to the United States (alphabetically organized by family name). The archive tries to collect materials from all areas where German-speaking people have lived.  Microfilmed parish registers of the former Reichssippenamt (Imperial lineage office) dating until 1874 are available from Posen, East and West Prussia, Pomerania (Pommern), and Silesia (Schleisen). There are also records from areas of German settlement abroad, such as Bessarabia, Bukowina, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Transylvania (Siebenbürgen), Sudetenland (now in the Czech Republic), Slovenia, South Tirol (Südtirol), and other countries and provinces of the German Empire.
